Baklava - Mori chupi kosturchanki

Baklava is a ethno band from Macedonia. This is their performance of an old traditional Macedonian song from the Aegean Macedonia, from the town of Kostur. The name of the song is "Mori chupi kosturchanki", which means "You girls from Kostur".

Baklava - Mori chupi kosturchanki

Baklava is an acoustic band, consisting of a female vocal and traditional folk instruments, primarily basing their sound on string instruments, but are not hesitant to incorporate other instruments when the music tells them to. They experiment with their take on the minimalist concept best expressed through the words Simplicity and Unpretentiousness.

Renouncing complex music forms and orchestrations, Baklava strives to express the perfection of simplicity, approaching its traditional folk music with reverent knowledge and sense of responsibility. Besides playing their take on Macedonian folk songs, Baklava’s world view is also open to other world folklore traditions. However, our aim is to create our own original and authentic music which may to a certain extent be rooted in the past.

These four artists have commenced on a search to find a form which binds, a form which embraces, a form which inspires. To find the form , taste, color and sound of baklava.

Baklava consists of the following four people:
  1. Elena Hristova - vocals, kaval;
  2. Aleksandar Stamatov - tambura;
  3. Nikola Nikolov - tambura;
  4. Dejan Sibinovski - def.
